It's been a terrible long time since the last update, but when there's no news I don't feel like updating.

That doesn't mean I've been doing nothing.

Snow Buddha has joined the admin team of Minecraft Workbench and does the forum moderating and promotional artworks.

Thud!

For those not familiar with the game Thud! I'll explain in short. Thud! originates from the wonderful world, created and written about by Terry Pratchett, called Discworld. It strongly resembles Hnefatafl which is a Germanic / Celtic variation of the more commonly know game Chess.

Currently there's a Thud! board in production and for sale at http://www.thudgame.com, But I want to make something more permanent to style up my living room. Hence the Thud! table project.

The designs are finished for both the table and the pieces that go with it as shown below.

The table will be created from thick plywood, stained in various colors and varnished. The table will be 68cm wide. The outer rim will be 8cm across to support a player's drink without having to put it on the table.

The pieces will be modeled from clay, coated with plaster and casted in tin. These will have a bottom of 3,5cm across to fit the 4cm squares of the board.

Currently its been very quiet around Snow Buddha. However, This doesn't mean I'm doing nothing. So here's a status update for what's been going on lately.

Snow Buddha will soon(ish) have a bigger brother. Snowzilla.
Miss Kaats her website is nearing finished.
Rebecca Mayes's forum had a small update.
The Snow Buddha site's splash screen will be converted to make language selection more visible.
There's a new random art piece in production.
Snow Buddha has successfully run another lightshow at Anno. Sad to say it'll probably be the last one for a while too.
The design for a Thud! table has started.
Snow Buddha nearly joined the t-shirt design competition of Load Ready Run. Sorry guys, I couldn't make anything exciting out of the logo.

And to top it off I've dug up this lovely skull in my front yard. It used to belong to a guinea pig. It's teeth fell out so those needed to be glued in. I used modeling glue which can be washed off with water and dries up see-through. To make it a little shiny I've polished it with everyday paint varnish.

Some will call it morbid ... others will understand the beauty of it.

After some great football matches and social events Snow Buddha has hooked up with Renée Kaats in an effort to rebuild and refresh her website.

The 19th of June has gone by and the lightshow was a great success. The system needs some tweaks and tuning, but it worked splendid.

More pictures were taken that event, but they're still in several camera's spread across Almere.

Taming a Beast

Slight Adjustments and updates

Due to the website of Rebecca Mayes going live I've decided to update Snow Buddha's looks slightly. This is for some simple reasons.

1. Rebecca Mayes's site looks awesome and I can't slack behind.
2. I solved some creative issues I previously wasn't too bothered with.
3. Flash gallery FTW!

Hope everyone likes the new content. For those who want my background, for their own PC, here it is without the overlay.

The temple used in the picture is of Angkor Wat (or Angkor Vat). Read up on the link if you like.

Video footage of the Light Test are on their way. Due to their size they are kind of hard to send over mail, but we'll get there. The Light setup has also been booked to run a full test evening at ANNO in Almere in the upcoming month. We'll keep you posted.

Light Organ Tests

After installation of the VJ system last week, Snow Buddha has ran some tests.

The original idea is to make a light organ. Light organs used to be the big thing in the 70s at clubs and discos. However, the use of them has died out.

As a first test to bring something new and refreshing Snow Buddha has revived these multi-color pulsing music lights. They might be from the 70s, but they haven't lost their charm yet.

The following screen shots will be tested Tuesday the 18th of May on a 7 to 10ft wall.

The lights react to the music and pulse in random colors. This should work for a spectacular display. I'll try to get some live footage from these on the test stage.

Installation of a VJ Screen

As a "day off", from getting Rebecca Mayes's website ready, I've been working on a VJ screen. The project was to make a light organ the cheapest way possible with the most smashing effect. Here are the results:

This system looks like a rather simple visualization or screensaver. The difference is in the system and the way it's set up. It can be expanded over several clone screens or multi-screens, it can be adjusted / programmed while running and the software is 100% free.

The final stage is to make the colors and flashes react one-on-one to the sound, but it already works for standard use.

Rebecca Mayes releases an Album

She is the world's least likely videogame reviewer.
She reviews games through the medium of song.
Her quirky, charming reviews have touched hearts across the gaming world.
And now the rest of the world is sitting up to listen.

Charlie Brooker commissioned Rebecca to write a song for his latest BBC program 'Gameswipe'. She wrote him a sweet, folky lullaby about the frenetically violent game 'Madworld' and sang it sitting in a cornfield, with scenes of the blood-soaked spliced in between shots of her ukulele, blond curls and floaty dress.

One of Rebecca’s songs is going to be featured on this summer's Glastonbury Festival CD and The Great Escape CD. Rebecca Mayes is breaking new ground, bringing game-inspired music to the mainstream. There's no telling what she might do next.

Her much anticipated album comes out on 28th May 2010.

Welcome to Snow Buddha

Welcome to the blog!

Here I'll keep everyone up-to-date on what I'm doing as far as this is possible. You know how it works with client confidentiality etc.

First I'd like to answer some questions I think some people might have.

You and your website are dutch. Why is this english?

Simply because everyone I got to know overtime are from all over the world. Mainly UK based but some are located in none-dutch / english countries. I thought I'd keep it simple and just keep this blog in english so everyone understands.

What's going to happen to Fuzzy's WoWblog?

It's finished. I've had a good time with it, but it's not what I want in the long run. I can fake myself into thinking my opinion matters about games and WoW, but in the end I'd really need to be working for a professional magazine before it starts to matter. So I'm focusing closer to home now which is the rise and fall of my own firm.

What would make this interesting for us?

Well, the best reason I can give is the next post. I'm really looking forward to pulling in some big fish to get Snow Buddha off the ground. Hopefully this will get me to post some interesting names in the future. I'm currently working on a very interesting project with none other than Rebecca Mayes (who? ... shame on you for asking that).

Will this be a daily thing?

I'll try to, but if there's nothing interesting to mention I won't bug you all with "Today I did my laundry". However if I do find something that is worth talking about I'll post it. I just thought the whole newspaper / daily this-or-that thing was a rather nice look / idea.
